Write for MEMO

MEMO publishes a new issue twice a year. These regular issues unite several articles from different academic disciplines under one common guiding theme. The selection of the general theme is the responsibility of the internal and external editorial boards. Contributions from conferences or workshops can be included in the programme as well as articles submitted on individual initiative. Invitations for submission are also issued on a regular basis via calls for paperswhich are published on MEMO’s website in the news section.

In addition to the regular issues, MEMO also publishes individual contributions that are separate from the issues. The editors decide on the acceptance of separate submissions in coordination with the internal and external editorial boards.

Publish in MEMO

There are two ways to publish an article in MEMO. Authors can either reply to a topic-specific call for papers (under observance of the submission deadline specified) or send a proposal for a separate, independent submission (this is possible at any time). In both cases, the proposed text must contain the following:

  • Title (or working title) of the planned article
  • Name of the author and information about the author (institute, research areas, current occupation, contact information)
  • Outline of the content of the proposed article: expository abstract (approx. 1 page), integration into research project when relevant
  • Estimated length of manuscript and expected number of images or other materials; in the case of separate issue-independent submissions, the planned time of completion or submission of the manuscript.

The Peer Review Process

All articles published in MEMO are double-blind peer reviewed. This means that each received submission is first evaluated by the internal editorial board and then reviewed by up to two external reviewers. Authors and reviewers do not know each other; communication occurs through the editors or the editorial department. We strive to recruit experts with proven expertise in their respective fields of research for each article.

Therefore, it is prudent to plan for an appropriately sufficient lead time before publication – the external evaluation phase is expected to take about 4 to 6 weeks and the author’s revision usually requires a similar period of time.

We see peer review as a powerful catalyst for the qualitative optimisation of the articles published in MEMO. It is intended to initiate a process of reflection and to support the authors in considering and re-evaluating their own work from a different angle and, if necessary, to further develop it.
